The Mexican president contacted the head of Canada's Liberal Party and the two leaders agreed to promote the strategic nature of the bilateral relationship between the two nations and the common goal of achieving better living conditions for their inhabitants.

In 2014, Mexico and Canada celebrated 70 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, which have since evolved into a strategic relationship.

Canada, Mexico’s third largest trading partner, forms part of the North American Free Trade Agreement, one of the world's most important and successful regional trade agreements.

At present, 96,000 Mexicans live in Canada, while 60,000 Canadians have made Mexico their permanent home.
