En el marco del Plan Integral de Justicia para Cananea, Sonora, el sector ambiental federal, liderado por la Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (SEMARNAT) en donde participan el Instituto Nacional de Ecología y Cambio Climático (INECC), la Comisión Nacional del Agua (CONAGUA) y el Instituto Mexicano de Tecnología del Agua (IMTA) y en acompañamiento por la Secretaría de Salud (SSA), ha preparado un Informe de Resultados de los Trabajos del Eje Salud Ambiental, el cual busca presentar un diagnóstico ambiental en la zona de influencia de la Mina Buenavista del Cobre y las comunidades aledañas al Río Sonora, a fin de determinar la exposición ambiental y de salud humana a contaminantes a partir del derrame ocurrido en 2014, así como una estimación de pérdidas económicas por los daños del derrame. Como parte de los resultados, se ha encontrado una presencia importante de metales y metaloides en y salud humana (sangre y orina), mientras que el apartado de costos económicos arroja una estimación de alrededor de $10,209 millones de pesos por pérdidas y daños derivados del derrame en la región.

Este análisis tiene como objetivo responder a las necesidades de identificación y caracterización de los costos económicos del impacto del derrame de la empresa Buenavista del Cobre ocurrido en 2014, a partir de un enfoque metodológico desagregado. El análisis consideró los siguientes rubros: limitaciones de acceso al agua, pérdidas económicas agropecuarias y en otros sectores; daños en la salud física y mental y otros gastos en salud, daños en suelos y vegetación ribereña, y en el lecho del río y desembolsos realizados por el sector ambiental federal. Con respecto a los resultados, se estima que el costo total para los impactos derivados del derrame asciende, al momento, a $10,209.30 millones de pesos.
Estimation of economic losses due to the damage caused by the spill in the Sonora and Bacanuchi rivers
This analysis aims to respond to the needs of identifying and characterizing the economic costs of the impact of the Buenavista del Cobre company spill that occurred in 2014, based on a disaggregated methodological approach.
