During his first international tour in 2016, which will take place from January 17 to 22 through the countries in the Arabian Peninsula, and include his participation in the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, President Enrique Peña Nieto will seek more investments, trade, and prosperity for Mexico, said the President’s Coordinator of Social Communication and Government Spokesperson Eduardo Sánchez Hernández, in a joint press conference with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Economy and Energy: Claudia Ruiz Massieu, Ildefonso Guajardo Villarreal and Pedro Joaquín Coldwell, respectively.
During his announcement of the details of the state visits the president will pay to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Qatar, Sánchez Hernández said that the Mexican president's tour is designed to strengthen the government’s strategy to reinforce Mexico's position as a nation that is being transformed in the global context.
At the official residence of Los Pinos, he stressed that the Middle East represents a new opportunity for Mexico, as a result of which President Enrique Pena Nieto decided that his first international tour this year will be to countries in the Arabian Peninsula.
The government spokesman explained that during this international tour, the opportunities Mexico provides as an investment destination and as a reliable business partner will be announced.
“With more investment and trade, there will be more opportunities for businesses and more jobs for Mexican workers,” he said.
He said that, “Under President Peña Nieto’s leadership, the Mexican delegation intends to sign various instruments to strengthen strategic cooperation with the countries in the Arabian Peninsula.”
He considered that, “This tour will have a historical value for Mexico,” because it, “will be the first visit by a Mexican head of state to the UAE and Qatar in the history of our bilateral relations.”
As a result of its cooperation links and structural reforms, Mexico has consolidated its leadership in Latin America and positioned itself as a reliable destination for investment and trade with the whole world.
He explained that in the eyes of these nations, and with its structural reforms as one of its main strengths, “Mexico is emerging as a country of new opportunities for global investment.”
Therefore, he added, the tour of the Arabian Peninsula will give an unprecedented boost to political relations with these countries and make it possible to expand trade, productive investment, tourism promotion, strengthen ties in education, science and technology, and project Mexican culture and its values.
In addition, he said, “This tour will open new horizons in the energy sector,” since in the Middle East, Mexico will present Energy Reform’s potential to attract more investments that will create well paying jobs.
He said that after visiting Qatar, the president will travel to Davos, Switzerland, to participate in the 2016 edition of the World Economic Forum.
At the Davos World Economic Forum, explained Eduardo Sánchez, “Mexico will strengthen its position in order to attract more investment to our country," adding that, “with more investment and trade, there will be more opportunities for businesses and more jobs for Mexican workers.”
He announced that in Davos, negotiations will begin to review and modernize the Free Trade Agreement with the countries in the European Free Trade Association, which in 2014 involved investments and trade with Mexico for over $3.7 billion USD.
He also mentioned that Mexico will strengthen its ties with Latin American countries, by participating in the specific session for the region within the framework of the Davos World Economic Forum.
