On behalf of the Mexican government, the Foreign Ministry strongly condemns the terrorist attack that took place yesterday at the Manchester Arena in England, where 22 people have been reported killed and 59 injured, as of now.

The Mexican government conveys its deepest condolences to the people and government of the United Kingdom, and its sympathy to the families of the victims of this reprehensible act of violence.

As soon as the Mexican embassy in the United Kingdom became aware of what had happened, it activated its emergency protocol and contacted the authorities. So far, no Mexican citizens are known to have been harmed.

There are approximately 12,000 Mexicans in the United Kingdom. Most live in the London metropolitan area (about 40 percent). According to the 2011 British census, approximately 750 Mexicans live in Manchester. 117 Mexican scholarship students attend universities in the Manchester area.
