The President of Singapore, Tony Tan, is in Mexico on a State visit from June 7 to 11 at the invitation of President Enrique Peña Nieto. This is the first State visit of a Singaporean president to Mexico and Latin America.

Mexico and Singapore celebrated the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2015. The growing importance of this bilateral relationship can be seen in the increased amount of trade, investment and bilateral and triangular cooperation, and the frequency of high-level meetings and visits.

Presidents Peña Nieto and Tony Tan welcomed the excellent progress made by the relationship, and agreed that they should further explore opportunities to strengthen and deepen the partnership, reaffirming their commitment to that end.

President Tony Tan’s State visit takes a first step towards a new stage in the bilateral relationship. Both renewed their commitment to strengthening and consolidating the partnership between Mexico and Singapore, and to promoting ties of lasting friendship.
