The governor, who was in Mexico at the head of a political and business mission that included state and local officials, as well as executives from Microsoft, Amazon, Boeing and other leading companies from the Seattle metro area, agreed with the Foreign Secretary on the importance of strengthening cooperation between Mexico and the state of Washington. 

The two officials also announced that the first "Mexico Week in Seattle" would be held in September 2017. The event will showcase in the Pacific Northwest the wealth of Mexico's culture and its economic transformations.

Foreign Secretary Videgaray highlighted Governor Inslee's commitment to combating climate change and the importance of enhancing the political and economic dialogue and encouraging a more dynamic business relationship with state actors. He also stressed the importance of giving impetus to a trilateral vision of shared prosperity and regional competitiveness, and reiterated that Mexico is ready to modernize NAFTA in a win-win scenario for all three parties.

Trade between Washington and Mexico totaled 3.27 billion dollars in 2016, 3.5% higher than in 2015. According to the U.S. census (2016), there are approximately 886,419 inhabitants of Hispanic origin in Washington, of which 706,040 are Mexicans (79.6% of the Hispanic population). Most work in the service sector, agriculture, construction, restaurants and in their homes.
