Foreign Secretary Luis Videgaray met today in Washington, D.C. with U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly.

At the meeting, they followed up on key bilateral issues and on the talks they held in February during Secretary Kelly’s visit to Mexico. They also discussed immigration, borders and security cooperation.

Additionally, they continued their dialogue on the new immigration policies announced by the U.S. government and their effects on the Mexican community there. The Foreign Secretary underscored the importance of respecting the rule of law and due process in implementing the policies. He also said that Mexico would not receive returnees from other countries.

Foreign Secretary Videgaray stressed the importance of the border as an area of prosperity and shared development, mentioning the infrastructure programs and the programs that make the border more efficient.  

Both secretaries agreed to continue their ongoing constructive exchange of proposals in order to move forward in areas of shared interest.
