In the first 100 days of the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador in health matters, progress was made in several areas, in order to comply with the commitment to provide quality medical care and free medicines to the entire population, regardless of their employment status.

The Secretary of Health led by Dr. Jorge Alcocer Varela, in these more than three months managed that nine laboratories improved their prices on drugs with patent in force, in relation to the prices agreed by the Price Trading Commission for 2019. What meant savings of 13.7 million in the acquisition of 11 keys.

Likewise, immediate actions were taken that allowed achieving economic savings, with respect to 2018, up to 46 percent in reduction of structure and a minimum cut of 30 percent of the staff.

Excesses were also eliminated with concrete actions such as cancellation of cell phone use; the expense of official vehicles was reduced, and superfluous expenses were eliminated.

All this within the framework of the austerity policy, implemented by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Among the actions that were launched is the Program of Health Care (Medical) and Free Medicines, the new model of Integral Primary Health Care (APS-I) and the holding of Citizen Forums for the preparation of the National Development Plan (PND), after the signing of the Agreement to make Access to Medical Care and Free Drugs of the Population without Social Security effective.

In conjunction with the medical addresses of IMSS, ISSSTE and Pemex, progress has been made in the design of the first level of care; the planning of new "universal" health units for the exchange of services and the elimination of subcontracting of private services, among others.
