To celebrate the Christmas season, President Enrique Peña Nieto met today at the National Palace with government employees, whom he told: We are working to ensure Mexico has better conditions, and provides opportunities and welfare for society:

"We are preparing to reach 2017 resolute, determined and committed, above the personal interests anyone can have,” adding that: "The important thing is to continue discharging this responsibility we have today, to serve Mexico, from public service”.

He expressed his confidence that in 2017,  “Mexico will do very well, and that it will be  great year for Mexico in which we will cope with specific challenges”.

He added: "But undoubtedly, given the challenges we will have, we hope will be pull through and overcome adversity and that Mexico will do very well in 2017, thanks to the work of all of you”.

He stated categorically: "In 2017, the government will continue to be strong”.

He highlighted the achievements of his government as a result of the collaboration of public servants in various areas such as security and justice, economic stability, job creation, foreign direct investment and in the energy and telecommunications sectors.

Likewise, he referred the achievements in alleviating poverty, health, housing, food, environmental protection, tourism and the agri-food sector.

He stressed that, “There is no merit or personal achievements by the president or any of my secretaries. There is a whole team of civil servants who are betting on Mexico, who give their best, and use their intellectual and physical capacities to perform the task entrusted to them”.

The president paid an emotional tribute to the former first Secretary of Culture, Rafael Tovar y de Teresa.

Lastly, he expressed his best wishes to the members of the Federal Public Administration:  “Happy holiday seasons to you personally, in your families and in the work they do in the mission with which you have been entrusted as part of the team working for Mexico. I hope that 2017 will be a year of successes and achievements and great joy for all of you”.
