• The best way to measure a government’s efforts is through the results seen in the figures, behind which are the success stories of many Mexican families:
  • The goal for this administration is to present six million basic education certificates to adults who, for various reasons, were unable to accredit their elementary or middle school education. During this Administration, 60 percent of those who have been certified in the 35-year history of INEA will be certified.

“Mexico is not made by a single person or government. It is the sum of the success stories of millions of Mexicans who, by achieving personal success in their everyday work and what they do every day, become the country’s success,” declared President Enrique Peña Nieto today.

At the event, during which he presented the one and a half millionth certificate of this year’s Special Certification Program (SCP) of the National Institute for Adult Education (INEA), the president declared that, “The best way to measure a government’s efforts is through the results seen in the figures, behind which are the success stories of many Mexican families”.

President Peña Nieto explained that the goal of the SCP is to combine the efforts of the Education and Social Development Secretariats to achieve the presentation of six million basic education certificates to adults who, for various reasons, had not been able to accredit their elementary or middle school education. “If we achieve this, we would be certifying nearly 60 percent of those who have been certified in the 35-year history of INEA in a single administration,” he said.

He added: “This is good news, these are good figures, and most importantly, it changes the lives of millions of people who achieve this certification”. He said that, “Not having this document sometimes means frustration, or being unable to grow or climb the various steps of what they are doing in their personal and professional lives”.

He said that what should be noted is that behind each figure, when talking about the millions of people who have been certified and already have a document proving they have completed their elementary or middle school education, is, “The story of success, the hopeful story of a woman, a young man or a man with a certificate who aspires to continue growing and building a personal success story”.

"This is the story of each of the more than a million and a half people who have been certified in our country this year,” he added.

The president said that, "What is clear today is that the quality of life of millions of Mexicans is changing and improving”.

“We are moving forward, and you are part of Mexico’s transformation. Our country is changing, advancing, growing and being transformed thanks to the personal commitment of society as a whole and of millions of Mexicans who are dissatisfied with their current status and determined to continue to grow and move forward,” he told the over 10,000 adults who received their basic education certificates today.

He said that the government had a, “Singe objective, which is to achieve quality of life and well-being for Mexican families”.

IN SEPTEMBER, THE ANNUAL GOAL OF A MILLION AND HALF ADULTS WITH CERTIFIED ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL EDUCATION WAS ACHIEVED; THEY DECIDED TO OVERCOME BARRIERS AND TRANSFORM THEIR LIVES: AURELIO NUÑO

Secretary of Public Education Aurelio Nuño Mayer informed the president that, “In the presence of 10,000 people, men and women who are here today to receive their certificates and graduate from elementary and middle school, you will be delivering the one and a half millionth certificate this year”.

He said that the annual target has been achieved, “Meaning that by the end of the year, we can pledge that nearly two million people will have completed their elementary and middle school education, and will no longer be lagging behind as regards their education. And that is another reason to be proud today”.

He said that the 10,000 adults who have graduated from elementary and middle school today, “Decided to overcome barriers. They decided to finish what they had unable to do in the past because they are convinced that education has the power to transform their lives”.

Secretary Nuño said that in 35 years, INEA has provided literacy training for over 25 million people and helped them to complete their elementary and middle school education, more than the population of countries such as Chile or any country in Central America.

“Of those 25 million people, who are no longer lagging behind as regards their studies, a million and a half completed their studies between January and September of this year,” he said. “Millions of stories of men and women who decided to take their lives into their hands, and transform them through education today have succeeded today,” he said.
