President Peña Nieto specifically instructed Ambassador Basáñez to consolidate strategic, close and constructive bilateral relations and to continue working on the multi-thematic agenda this administration has built with the United States, especially in economic, educational, energy and entrepreneurial issues, designed to expand our fellow countrymen’s opportunities on either side of the border.

Ambassador Basañez reiterated his commitment to the president to project Mexico as an actor with global responsibility and to ensure that bilateral relations turn North America into the most dynamic and competitive region.

The Senate confirmed Ambassador Basañez on September 2, acknowledging his political career in Mexico, his successful performance in the private sector and his broad recognition in the academic world of Mexico and the United States, which will be critical to his fulfilling the task entrusted to him by the president.
