SEMARNAT to ensure that Emergency Vehicle Verification Guidelines are
established for the benefit of all the inhabitants of the megalopolis as soon as
indicated the need to update and reorient the Program for Environmental Air Contingencies in the Valley of Mexico.
The aim is to
ensure that air quality in the Valley of Mexico does not jeopardize the
population’s health under any weather conditions.
This morning, at the official residence of Los Pinos, Enrique Peña Nieto led an evaluation meeting
in which he reviewed the current status of the environmental contingency in the
Valley of Mexico and reiterated the instructions issued last night to review
the measures to improve air quality and protect the health of its over 20
At the meeting, the president noted that not only should this
contingency be addressed but that new standards and instruments should also be
adopted to steadily reduce air pollution indices
He instructed the Minister of the Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT)
to ensure that Emergency Vehicle Verification Guidelines are established for
the benefit of all the inhabitants of the megalopolis as soon as possible.
This instrument, he said, should incorporate the finest technologies
available worldwide to guarantee low emissions from cars on the road.
He added that SEMARNAT will promote the necessary agreements within the
Environmental Commission of the megalopolis
to update and reorient the Environmental Air Contingency Program.
He explained that the aim is to ensure that air quality in the Valley of
Mexico does not jeopardize the population’s health under any weather conditions.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Environment and Natural

Guzmán Ortiz, General Coordinator of Politics and Government Andrés Massieu
