President Enrique Peña Nieto congratulated the winner of Guatemala's presidential elections, Jimmy Morales, on his victory.

President Peña Nieto expressed the Mexican government’s willingness to continue working to strengthen ties between the two countries in various fields, and to promote development in Central America.

The president repeated the Mexican government’s interest in strengthening bilateral relations to advance issues on the broad common agenda.

President Peña Nieto stressed that relations between Mexico and Guatemala have historical roots of brotherhood, as a result of which the two countries have similar political, economic, commercial and cultural interests.

During the phone call, the Mexican president acknowledged the civility and democratic spirit in which the elections in Guatemala were held this weekend.
