The government of Mexico deeply regrets the death of former President of Israel Shimon Peres.

Mexico shares the people of Israel’s grief. The memory of Shimon Peres as a man of peace and a great statesman will live on. His tireless work for peace and security in the Middle East was reflected in his efforts to promote dialogue and reconciliation between Arabs and Jews.

Shimon Peres was a great friend of our country. The people and government of Mexico appreciate the extraordinary qualities of former President Peres as an enlightened man and a universal citizen.

Peres paid a state visit to Mexico in November 2013, when important bilateral instruments in education, culture, trade, technical assistance and cooperation in water and water resources, youth and sports were signed. The  former president’s work was undoubtedly instrumental in creating and strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Mexico and Israel established relations on July 1, 1952.
