As he lead the Mexican Navy Day celebration, President Enrique Peña Nieto said today that, “For Mexicans, having marines and professional, highly trained soldiers is a matter of trust, confidence and strength at times of adversity".

Make no mistake: the presence of our armed forces in cities and communities is only intended to support Mexican families. And this is acknowledged by society itself. According to the latest National Survey of Victimization and Perception of Public Safety, undertaken by an autonomous entity, INEGI, the Navy and Army are precisely the two security institutions that create the greatest confidence,” he said.

The president said: As president, my commitment is to update our Armed Forces, to ensure that every marine and soldier receives proper training and is armed with the best tools to perform their duties as efficiently as possible.”

He stressed that in line with this, he has instructed the heads of the Departments of the Navy and National Defense, “To improve their facilities and educational plans, modernize their operating infrastructure and modernize their military equipment and industry.”

He said that some of the measures taken within this framework include the rehabilitation of the Platform of Veracruz Naval Base, the new Mexican Navy Center for Weapons Modernization and Development opened today and the renovated premises of the First Naval Region, also opened today.

President Peña Nieto said that, “Our Navy is a symbol of Mexico, and of the laws and institutions we have built through the efforts of several generations.”

"There are numerous episodes of our history in which Mexican marines have shown their loyalty to the nation, their firm determination to defend it until they achieve victory or die.” You, he said, “Are staunch allies of our country. The Mexican Navy is a navy of union, courage and the will to serve the best national causes.”

He said that on their day, all marines, “Can be proud to serve Mexico. The nation regards you as its noble, loyal sons. Mexicans regard you as upright citizens who deserve our greatest gratitude and high esteem. Know that Mexico trusts you.”

The president congratulated the men and women of the Mexican Navy, “On his daily commitment to safeguarding the sovereignty and defense of the integrity of national territory, including the Mexican maritime zones.”

After recalling the events in which the Armed Forces have played a key role, he said that, “Every day, our armed forces fulfil the lofty mission of safeguarding the sovereignty, independence and integrity of our territory, but also perform an invaluable social task, by providing assistance to the population.”

He said that in order to be better prepared, “The Mexican Navy is constantly trained and modernized. Precisely during this period, naval personnel aboard the ship Papaloapan and the California Oceanic Patrol are participating in a multinational exercise in the sister nation of Brazil.”

He explained that in this type of practices, “Our Marines and crew acquire the latest skills and knowledge to assist the civilian population in the event of emergencies as they did during the threat of Hurricane Patricia".

In the event, President Peña Nieto delivered 11 honorable mentions to the most outstanding Mexican Navy personnel during the naval operations.

Prior to the event commemorating Mexican Navy Day, the president inaugurated the Mexican Navy’s Center for Weapons Modernization and Development. He toured the facility, where he received explanations from Admiral José Manuel Salinas Pérez, Director of the Center. He also signed the Distinguished Visitors’ Book.

He subsequently launched the ARM "Tajin" Coastal Patrol and the ARM "Gienah" Interceptor Patrol, was given a tour on the "Tajin" Coastal Patrol and also signed the Distinguished Visitors’ Book.

THE ARMED FORCES ARE READY TO COMBAT CORRUPTION, IMPUNITY AND CRIME: ADMIRAL SOBERÓN SANZ

Naval Minister Admiral Vidal Francisco Soberón Sanz said that in compliance with the president’s instructions, the Navy has created substantial changes which, have required breaking old paradigms, “Through new strategies, we are  seeking to transform ourselves into a modern Navy, in keeping with the new times.”

He said that, “In this way, we support the proposed reforms, following their lines of action whose sole and legitimate aim is the well-being of all Mexicans," adding that our country has a Navy, “Which knows that transformation and modernization will yield results, a Navy that behaves with honesty and loyalty to the President who represents all Mexicans.”

Mentioning some of the achievements of this armed body such as the modernization of naval educational institutions, he highlighted the inauguration of the Mexican Navy’s Center for Weapons Modernization and Development, “An action that allows us to strengthen our capacities for operational response by having military supplies designed with high technology.”

He mentioned that the Tajin Coastal Patrol and Class Two Polaris Patrol Gienah, also inaugurated today by the president, “Are ready to enforce the rule of law in our seas," and also referred to the launching of the Chiapas-PO-165 Ocean Patrol last week at Salina Cruz-Oaxaca.

“In short, together we are constructing a Mexican Navy with more and better capabilities. This is the Navy Mexicans deserve,” he told President Peña Nieto, after declaring that, “ The armed forces are present and ready to respond to your call to combat corruption, impunity and crime.”

Veracruz Governor Javier Duarte de Ochoa said that, “We are a democratic country, with strong institutions, and a government that fulfills its commitments that is advancing the consolidation of a Mexico at peace.”

He considered that the Mexican Navy is, “An institution of unswerving loyalty, which has state of the art technology in its naval forces, units and establishments.”

He said that, “Mexicans know that the Mexican Army will continue protecting shorelines and safeguarding our ports and strategic installations; it will continue to do so as a modern, cutting edge corporation that is always ready and willing to serve Mexico with the same courage.”

He said that, “Together we consolidate the rule of law and create a Mexico freedoms we all desire, and in this task the armed forces play a key role as the guarantors of national security.”

Duarte de Ochoa declared that  "Veracruz will fully comply with the most important reform promoted by President Enrique Peña Nieto, Education Reform,” and noted that, “Nothing and no-one is more important than ensuring a promising future and a future of well-being for our children and youth.”

He added: “Rest assured Mr. President, and Mr. Minister of Education, Veracruz will fully comply with the guidelines of Education Reform to ensure quality public education for our children.”
