President Enrique Peña Nieto today led the graduation ceremony of the 2011-2016 generation of the Heroic Naval Military School, in which he stressed that at this prestigious institution, its students, “Have acquired the highest naval values of honor duty, loyalty and patriotism, in addition to civic and moral values such as generosity, solidarity and brotherhood”.

He also noted that these principles, “Led a group of brave marines in a less publicized but equally important event to save the lives of two children last weekend who were washed away by the current at a beach in Colima”.

“These are the values instilled in the cadets of the Heroic Naval Military School; these are the actions that will strengthen the prestige and greatness of our military institutions,” he added.

He said that, “Few Mexican state institutions have such a broad, positive influence on the daily lives of families and communities as the Armed Forces. From guaranteeing peace and assisting people in emergencies to taking food to isolated communities and participating in health campaigns, our sailors, soldiers and airmen are by Mexicans’ side when they need it.”

“As president and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, I recognize our sailors, soldiers and airmen, exemplary Mexicans military who demonstrate their dedication to service, institutional loyalty and love for Mexico daily," he said.

The president stressed that today the value of a quality education is more important than ever, both in civil and military life. “In this administration we have given the highest priority to the expansion and modernization of naval establishments as well as the improvement and upgrading of their academic programs,” he said.

He recalled that as part of that commitment, “A year ago, we created the Naval University, offering education at the technical, professional technical, professional and graduate level”.

He noted that today, with the delivery of the school’s Virtual Library, “We have taken another step in the consolidation of the Naval Education System”. It is, he said, “A modern building, with the most advanced information and communications technology so that cadets can expand their learning horizons”.

He congratulated  Secretary of the Navy Admiral Vidal Francisco Soberon Sanz, “On this initiative to undertake the assessment of academic training as an instrument to provide feedback and build our educational capacities”.

He also congratulated the graduates, their parents, family and teachers, who promoted and supported them in this decisive stage of their training. ”I am pleased that today naval officers, including 21 women, have graduated in six specialties. This is another example of the growing participation of Mexican women in national development,” he said.

At the event, President Peña Nieto gave 63 Cadets academic awards, and 132 sables  and arms to graduating midshipmen. Afterwards, the president inaugurated the Virtual Library and the Memorial Building of the Heroic Naval Military School, and toured the new facilities.

AT THE NAVY SECRETARIAT, WE WILL CONTINUE PROVIDING A MEXICAN YOUTH WITH SPACES FOR EDUCATION, EMPLOYMENT AND DEVELOPMENT: ADMIRAL SOBERÓN SANZ

Secretary of the Navy Admiral Vidal Francisco Soberon Sanz said that, “The government and its institutions are clear that the future of Mexico depends largely on what we do for the education of our children and youth”.

"An education that promotes competences, in addition to comprehensive skills. An education that instills values while promoting science and technology. A quality education that allows us to be a better society,” he said.

He stated: “At the Navy Secretariat, we will continue providing Mexican youth with spaces for education, employment and development. Likewise, we will continue to foster, as you instructed, quality education, as well as the promotion of science, technology and innovation”.

Undoubtedly, he added, “This is the path that will lead us to build a fairer, more prosperous society, a society in which our youth have access to more and better educational opportunities. Today, Mexicans know that the future of our youth, and therefore of this great nation depends on quality education”.

“Within this field of honor, in which we ennoble the memory of our military and naval heroes, we repeat our conviction to serve Mexico. Rest assured that the actions of these young graduates like those of the rest of those who comprise the Armed Forces are designed to always ensure the highest interests of the nation,” he declared.

Secretary of Finance and Public Credit, Luis Videgaray Caso, sponsor of the class of 2011-2016, highlighted the great pride this honor represents, “Because they are young professionals who have worked hard to complete their training and thus serve Mexico”. The Mexican Navy, he said, “is one of the pillars of the Mexican state, our sovereignty and the pride of the nation's institutions”.

He said that participating in a ceremony like this, “Allows us, above all, to witness how the greatness of Mexico is formed, a greatness that is formed in institutions, in professional, capable,  well trained men and women,” who live and fight every day for their country.

He told President Peña Nieto that today Mexico faces different forms of turbulence just as sometimes there are skies and seas that are a challenge for those in the Navy, “Today, as captain, you face a turbulent world; the international financial and economic environment undoubtedly poses a challenge”.

“Just as these young people who are graduating today will have to lead their ships to safe harbor in the event of storms, so you, Mr. President, as captain of this great ship, will do the same with this great ship called Mexico. You can count on these young people who are graduating today and all your collaborators to continue serving this great nation with you,” he said.

PRESIDENT PEÑA NIETO HAS SHOWN HIS GREAT INTEREST IN THE TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT OF MILITARY MARINES: CARLOS EDUARDO HERNANDEZ AGUILAR, GRADUATE OF THE HEROIC NAVAL MILITARY SCHOOL

On behalf of his fellow students from the class of 2011-2016,  Naval Aviation Midshipman Carlos Eduardo Hernández Aguilar thanked President Enrique Peña Nieto for his presence, which, he said, “Shows his great interest in the training and development of military marines”.

We are grateful, he continued, “For your confidence in each one of us and we assure you that as good, loyal Mexican marines, we will fully repay you for the benefit our citizens and nation”.

Noting that the Heroic Naval Military School has trained them as officers committed to safeguarding national sovereignty, and acting in strict compliance with the legal rules that govern us, as well as respect for human rights, he said: "We know that the progress of a nation must be based on a comprehensive quality education”.

 “Rest assured that each of the officers that graduates today from this naval academy will protect with our lives national sovereignty and the security of all Mexicans, because we will serve Mexico today and always,” he told the president.
