President Enrique Peña Nieto and his wife Angélica Rivera de Peña said goodbye to Pope Francis at the end of his visit to our country, during which he led various events in the capital, the State of Mexico, Chiapas, Michoacán and this border state.

In an emotional ceremony at Abraham González International Airport in Ciudad Juárez, the Mexican president and his wife bid farewell to the Pope at the foot of the airstairs of the plane taking him back to Rome.

During the ceremony, the Mexican national anthem and the Vatican City national anthem were sung before a large group of families who came to bid farewell to the Bishop of Rome.

Members of the Papal Entourage said goodbye to the president and his wife. The president’s staff also bid farewell to the Pope.

Earlier, President Peña Nieto and his wife met privately for several minutes with the Bishop of Rome and thanked him for his visit to our country on behalf of the Mexican people.
