Earlier today, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto and US President Barack Obama held a telephone conversation.

President Obama congratulated the Mexican president on the capture of Joaquín Guzmán Loera. He said that this courageous action was the result of efficient work and President Peña Nieto’s commitment to combating organized crime and drug trafficking.

The Mexican president said that fighting drug trafficking and criminal organizations is a firm conviction of his government.

He thanked President Obama for the unwavering institutional collaboration has been achieved between the various agencies of the US government and the federal forces of our country, and stressed the importance of maintaining a common front against the scourge of organized crime in our societies.

The president of Mexico also congratulated President Barack Obama on his recent State of the Union address, delivered to the United States Congress and on the progress of his administration.

The two leaders leaders also discussed issues related to migration, and expressed their aim of strengthening bilateral cooperation in this area.
