President Enrique Peña Nieto sent off the Mexican delegations participating in the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

He said that Mexico is extremely proud of its Olympic and Paralympic athletes.

Cyclist Daniela Campuzano and swimmer Nely Miranda received the national flag from President Enrique Peña Nieto.

A total of 194 Mexican athletes will participate in the Olympics: 128 in the Olympic Games and 66 in the Paralympic Games.

Mexico in the Rio 2016 Olympics.

  • 128 Mexican athletes will participate (48 women and 81 men).
  • Mexico will participate in 27 disciplines.
  • These will be the first Olympic Games for 73 athletes.

  • 66 Mexican athletes will participate (31 women and 35 men)
  • Mexico will participate in 9 disciplines.
  • These will be the first Olympic Games for 32 athletes.

  • Mexico has officially participated in 22 Olympic Games.
  • Mexico won it first Olympic medal (bronze) in Paris in 1900.
  • In 1948, jockey Humberto Mariles won Mexico’s first gold medal in the individual jump in horse riding.
