The Presidents of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto and Germany, Joachim Gauck inaugurated and toured the exhibition “Mayan, the language of beauty” at the Martin-Gropius-Bau Museum in Berlin, which marked the start of the Mexico-Germany Dual Year.

“Mexico is a country with enormous cultural richness, and we are deeply proud of our history and  the legacy of our ancestors.”

o   The exhibition brings together pieces from more than 20 museums.

o   It includes over 300 pieces ─some over 2,000 years old─that testify to their world view, writing and cities, such as Calakmul, Chichén Itza, Palenque and Uxmal.

o   It will be temporarily housed in the majestic Martin Gropius Bau Museum.

o   This exhibition traces the route of a civilization that is admired throughout the world for its great technical, architectural and astronomical advances.

“This exhibition is the perfect setting for launching the Germany-Mexico Dual Year, agreed during my first meeting with Chancellor Merkel, in 2012.”

Mexico is a country with a great cultural richness; it highlights the best of its past and disseminates its enormous cultural heritage.
