This is the first visit by the Cuban leader to Mexico since he took office in 2006.

This visit takes places within an excellent stage following the relaunch initiated by the two governments in November 2013.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) announced that talks in the bilateral meeting between President Enrique Peña Nieto and President Raúl Castro, will focus on the sweeping reforms implemented in our country and the reforms in Cuba that have allowed foreign investment, particularly in the El Mariel economic development zone.

Mexico-Cuba relations are evolving and currently expressed through greater higher educational, academic, technological and best practice exchanges.

Cuba is Mexico’s third largest trading in the Caribbean. In 2014, trade totaled $374 million USD.
