In his Twitter account, President Enrique Peña Nieto congratulated the writer and said:
"Fernando is a great Mexican writer. The author of novels already included in universal literature. A lifetime dedicated to literature."
Fernando del Paso’s most outstanding works include the José Trigo trilogy; in addition to Palinuro de México and Noticias del Imperio, a historical novel about the Empire of Maximilian of Habsburg and his wife Carlota in Mexico, a story requiring over a decade of work.
In 1991, the author, artist, painter, diplomat and academic was awarded the National Prize for Arts and Sciences, presented by the Mexican government.
