The most recent CONEVAL assessment shows that 21.8 million Mexicans are unable to exercise their right to receive medical services, although in 2000, 58.6% of the Mexican population, approximately 57 million people, lacked this right.

The Secretariat of Social Development (SEDESOL) is currently making a major effort through the PROSPERA Program, which benefits 6.1 million Mexican families through health, education and food support.
